Semana Santa
The Semana Santa literally means "Holy Week" and is the Spanish name for Holy Week, the week that takes place before Easter.
It is a period full of tradition and culture that is celebrated by the Spaniards year after year and this through many processions with incense, melancholic music, drums and bells. These processions are in fact essential penitential processions, in which penitents always participate. The penitents are traditionally provided with pointed masks, in order to guarantee the anonymity of these penitents.
The Semana Santa falls on a different date every year and will take place this year from Sunday March 28 to Saturday April 3, ending Sunday April 4 (exactly at Easter).
