Which European country ranks as the best holiday destination?

You have no doubt witnessed or been part of the tasty debate about which country has the most assets in terms of summer holiday destination. The Europe Summer Tourism Index has put it to the test with objective parameters. Spain comes out on top when it comes to Europe's best holiday destination, with a perfect score of no less than 10 out of 10!

Why Spain?

España is praised for its sun-drenched summers, delicious local cuisine and hospitable people. Moreover, the costas' legendary beaches have been categorised with blue flags: this is an international recognition of the beach's efforts in environmental and sustainability management, safety, water quality, awareness and education, and waste prevention and sorting.

Italy and Greece follow in second and third place, with scores of 9.51 and 9.33 out of 10, respectively. Turkey and Portugal complete the top five best summer destinations in Europe.

How does the survey work?

The survey ranks 45 European countries based on criteria such as beach offerings, popularity as a summer destination, price level for accommodation and food, summer weather, local cuisine and hospitality of the people. Belgium is ranked 18th, with a score of 4.9 out of 10. Our country scores well on cuisine and hospitality, but less so on the quality of beaches.

Founded out of frustration
